What is Hypnotherapy?
Clinical Hypnosis has been successfully used as a form of therapy for many years and was approved by the British Medical Association during the 1950's. There are many misconceptions about the experience of hypnotherapy but these are mostly dispelled in the first session and the client normally describes the experience as the same feeling they have before they fall asleep. In other words, they feel very relaxed but still conscious of where they are and what they are doing.
The fully conscious mind operates in the Beta range of 14-35 Hz while the hypnotic state occurs when the majority of brain activity is at a much slower rate within the Alpha range of 8-13 Hz. Everyone enters the Alpha range before falling into the sleep state which is why most people describe the experience of hypnosis in this way.

While in the hypnotic state, we are able to bypass all the questioning and judging tendencies of the mind and this allows us to access memories and feelings far more easily and quickly. Trigger points or core reasons for a person's problems can then be identified and dealt with, leading to positive changes for the client.

It is important to remember that throughout the whole hypnotic process you have complete control of the situation at all times. There is always a part of the mind that is aware of what you are saying and doing. You cannot be made to do anything that you do not want to do. Instead, it allows you to progress through therapy at your own pace as only you know when you are ready.

Most people describe their first encounter with hypnotherapy as being in the most relaxed state they have ever experienced.
